24.67 Million Watched Lions-Packers, and Detroit Is Must-See TV Again
Lions fans, you already knew Sunday's finish was special. Turns out a whole lot of the country was watching it with you.
Our Take: This is what a winning culture looks like from the outside. Detroit is no longer a team people tune into out of curiosity. The Lions are appointment television, and a thrilling 20-17 win that ended on a walk-off field goal is exactly why.
According to NBC Sports' Mike Florio, Packers-Lions on Fox averaged 24.67 million viewers in Week 7. Florio notes the Fox late-afternoon window is averaging 24.749 million viewers through the first seven weeks of the season, and that the Sunday night game that week drew 26.3 million.
Lions Wire, via Yahoo Sports, reports the game was billed as Fox's "America's Game Of The Week," and that the big draw continues to make that window the leader in NFL broadcast viewership this season. Writer Scout Springgate notes the Lions' next game will also air on Fox, with Kevin Burkhardt, Tom Brady, Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi on the call from Ford Field, though Fox has no game carrying the "America's Game Of The Week" title in Week 8.
What to watch: the national spotlight isn't going anywhere. Detroit gets another big stage at home Sunday, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. ET. Keep the ratings rolling by winning the next one.
